NFL 2017: Week 14 Predictions!

weddle-touchdown

It may not being saying much but Baltimore is playing its best football of the season right now. On Sunday night, they visit division rival, Pittsburgh.

By: Elias McMillan

Last Week: 9-7

Season: 115-77

Big Five Games of the Week

New Orleans @ Atlanta – You know, I’m a uniform nerd so I have to mention that this week’s color rush match-up features two of the best sets in the league. But I digress. Atlanta had problems scoring points last week against Minnesota’s defense despite having a healthy Devonta Freeman back. This week, they’ll face New Orleans at home and they have an improved defense this season. New Orleans may not be as stout as Minnesota defensively but they can get the job done upfront and in the secondary. The real star of the Saints emergence as a contender is their run game. RB Mark Ingram has been steady and rookie RB Alvin Kamara has been as good as any rookie RB this season. Kamara offers great speed and toughness in the red zone. I don’t think the Falcons defense will be able to bottle the Saints run game. Atlanta will want to protect the home turf in this NFC South matchup but I don’t see them matching New Orleans unless their offense can get it figured out. Prediction: Saints 28 – Falcons 18

Oakland @ Kansas City – Oakland crawled to a victory last week at home against a bad Giants team. That may not seem like much but maybe that can keep that rolling into this week when they face a slumping Chiefs team. Kansas City is falling apart. Last week against the Jets, QB Alex Smith played out of his mind and they still lost. The fact that the Jets were able to put up the points they were able to, its time to realize that Kansas City is a poor defensive team. And even worst, they suspended their best corner for this game. I know the Chiefs are usually good at home but I think the Raiders may have advantage in this one. If David Carr is able to run his offense and hit his receivers down field against a poor secondary, the Raiders should have a great chance at taking this one. Oakland has been a disappointment this season but a win here on the road will put them firmly in the playoff conversation. I think Oakland will step up on the road and Kansas City’s woes will continue. Prediction: Raiders 24 – Chiefs 21

Philadelphia @ Los Angeles Rams – After a loss in Seattle, the Eagles stayed on the west coast in preparation for a matchup on Sunday with the NFC West leading LA Rams. The Eagles will need to come out this week with a little more urgency on offense. The Rams have a tough defense under Wade Phillips. Their whole game is based on limiting the opposing offenses chances to score, as their offense isn’t going to win them any games. The Rams offense will face an uphill battle in this game against a Philadelphia defense that is also pretty decent. I have a hard time believing that the Rams will be able to outscore the Eagles and if they are able to, it will take a tremendous effort from their defense. I think the Eagles are starting to look stale on both sides of the ball. I’m going out a limb and taking the home team in an upset. Prediction: Rams 23 – Eagles 16

Seattle @ Jacksonville – The Seahawks had a classic strong performance last week at home. I didn’t see that coming with all the injuries they are going through right now. QB Russell Wilson is doing a great job at keeping his team competitive and he might be good enough to carry Seattle to the post season. Jacksonville has been as inconsistent this season as Seattle without all the injuries. This should be a great defensive matchup. If I had to trust one offense to make a game deciding play, I’ll go with Wilson over Blake Bortles. I’ll give Bortles some credit as he hasn’t put in a poor performance recently but I think Seattle’s defense will present him with some issues. Prediction: Seahawks 24 – Jaguars 17

Baltimore @ Pittsburgh – I really liked the way Baltimore looked last week at home. Defense continued to play well but the offense finally showed up as well. QB Joe Flacco had his best performance of 2017 and the run game is starting to show some consistency. Pittsburgh is coming off some poor performances despite maintaining their winning streak. They didn’t look great at home against Green Bay and they were down three scores last week in Cincinnati. I think it does mean a lot that they were able to win those games but I’m starting to worry about their defense. And things could get worst before they get better with the injury last week suffered by defensive leader Ryan Shazier. This could be a classic, drag ‘em out, AFC North, Ravens-Steelers game, per usual. Though the Steelers defense is struggling, I don’t think I’m ready to believe that the Ravens are ready to maintain a consistent threat in the passing game yet. Baltimore’s defense is good but Pittsburgh just has better players. Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell will give them fits. Flacco has had some big moments at Heinz Field. He will have to be the one to match what Pittsburgh can do offensively on Sunday. I think Pittsburgh will keep it rolling in a tough contest. It won’t get as ugly as it got last week. But who knows. Mike Mitchell might be returning. Prediction: Steelers 29 – Ravens 17

The Rest of Week 14

Colts over Bills – Buffalo failed to upset New England last week and even worst, they suffered through a few injuries in that contest. Indy stinks but they should be able to take full advantage of a banged up Bills team.

Bears over Bengals – Marvin Lewis still has a job? How? Chicago must help put the nail in that coffin. The entire Cincinnati franchise is a joke.

Packers over Browns – Green Bay is keeping hope alive as Aaron Rodgers could be returning soon.

Giants over Cowboys – Here’s an upset. I still feel that the Cowboys will find a way at ended their chances at the playoffs in an embarrassing fashion despite ending their skid last week. The Giants have nothing to lose. They fired their coach. A lot of alumni will be at the stadium this week. And they’ll have Eli Manning to rally behind. The Giants stink but they be extra motivated to put a stake thru Dallas’ playoff hopes. Dak went 11-22 passing last week. I don’t trust that he is back to the form he had last season.

Buccaneers over Lions – Matt Stafford has a hand injury and Detroit’s backup is garbage. I’m taking Famous Jameis to eat the “W”.

Vikings over Panthers – If Cam Newton can beat the Minnesota defense, I would be surprised and very impressed.

Texans over 49ers – Jimmy Garoppolo got a win last week. This week, he’ll face a tougher road test in the Houston defense.

Jets over Broncos – Denver looks awful. How did it get so bad so fast for them? Meanwhile, Todd Bowles is winning games with Josh McCown. What a time.

Cardinals over Titans – I don’t trust the Tennessee defense.

Chargers over Washington – Washington looks like they are ready to fast forward to the offseason. Meanwhile, the LA Chargers are in the middle of a three-team race in the AFC West.

Patriots over Dolphins – New England won’t need Gronk this week. He’ll be fresh next week in Pittsburgh.

Fantasy Football Picks of the Week

QB: David Carr (Raiders) – Kansas City is giving up a lot through the air.

RB: Frank Gore (Colts) – Gore is quietly having a strong season.

WR: Larry Fitzgerald (Cardinals) – How about a vintage Larry Legend performance at home this week and a poor Titans secondary?

TE: Travis Kelce (Chiefs) – Oakland doesn’t have a great secondary. Alex Smith will look to continue last week’s success by looking 87’s way.

DEF: Minnesota – The Vikings defense will be a tough chore even on the road for Cam Newton.

Does anyone want to win the AFC South?

By: Elias McMillan

Last Week: 10-4

Season: 88-58

Big Five Games of the Week

Tennessee @ Pittsburgh – The Steelers played down to a weaker opponent on the road (again) last week in Indianapolis and still won. That’s pretty much going to be their story for the most part for the rest of the season. Pittsburgh has a favorable schedule down the stretch and they still have one of the most talented rosters in the AFC. They can’t act like they can skate by into the post season but if they take every game seriously, that will most likely be the case. On Thursday night, they should face one of their toughest opponents left on the schedule. The Titans are right where they were a season ago; in the middle of a divisional race. Tennessee has been under whelming for most of this season but they have to feel encouraged to be in the position where they are now. A win on the road against a good Pittsburgh team would set them up nicely. Weird things happen in these Thursday night games and defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau is familiar with the Pittsburgh offense. But Pittsburgh has a good track record in these Thursday night games and the Titans don’t have the defense to slow the weapons that Pittsburgh has. Prediction: Steelers 30 – Titans 21

Los Angeles Rams @ Minnesota – The Rams have an impressive 7-2 record as they lead the NFC West. They have a tough stretch of games coming up so we are about to find out how good this young team really is. Minnesota, on the road, will be one of those tough tests. Minnesota is managing to get by with Case Keenum starting at QB. Keenum is in an ideal situation right now with the talent surrounding him at the skill positions on offense and with the level the Vikings defense is playing at currently. Keenum just has to continue to drive the bus. If he screws up, Teddy Bridgewater will be ready. The Rams defense should provide a good test for the Vikings offense. But I expect the Vikings defense to really get after QB Jared Goff. Prediction: Vikings 24 – Rams 19

New England @ Oakland – This game is a must win for the silver and black if they hope to save their 2017 season. This game will feature two offenses that can provide big plays and two defenses that usually give up big plays. It would be nice if the Raiders defense actually showed up for this one at home. Whoops, I forgot. This one being played in Mexico City. It’s going to be up to Khalil Mack and Bruce Irvin to provide the pressure to Tom Brady and keep him on his toes for all four quarters. New England’s defense is under rated but ordinary. Derek Carr has to figure a way to go toe-to-toe with Brady if the Patriots offense is able to find success. Oakland just doesn’t seem to have it right now while New England looks like they are just hitting their stride. Prediction: Patriots 36 – Raiders 28

Philadelphia @ Dallas – The Cowboys are going through a roller coaster type season ago again. After beating Kansas City two weeks ago, things appeared to be looking up. After last week’s beat down in Atlanta, Dallas has had to deal with a string of bad news. Ezekiel Elliott. Dan Bailey. Tyron Smith. Sean Lee. All possibly out this week with the one loss Eagles coming to town coming off a bye. Seems like a lot to overcome. The Eagles look like the toast of the NFC. The offense is clicking under young QB Carson Wentz and the defense looks as vicious as ever; especially their front 7. But the Eagles really haven’t beaten anyone. They are coming off their most impressive win against Denver but they aren’t really one of the stronger teams in the league this year. What Philadelphia has done so far may be impressive but I think the heat will be turned up on them during this second half of the season. The Eagles/Cowboys matchups are usually close ones. I think the Eagles will be able to pressure the Cowboys defense with the way they can attack through the air and on the ground. The running game will be key as Sean Lee will be out once again for Dallas. I think Dallas will show against Philly that they have learned from the mistakes last week in Atlanta. I think Dak Prescott will receive better protection. I also think Dallas will find success on the ground as the Eagles will also be missing one of their starting LB. The Cowboys will have a back against the wall mentality at home and I think they will respond well. I’m going out on a limb and being a homer. I like the Boys at home. Prediction: Cowboys 31 – Eagles 29

Atlanta @ Seattle – The Seahawks have issues right now. They’ve been mostly inconsistent on both sides of the ball this season and things will get worst with the lost of CB Richard Sherman. But it typical Seattle fashion, playing at home is suppose to be a cure all, right? I’m not sure about that. Atlanta was able to take advantage of Dallas’ handicaps at home last but I don’t think that are ready to turn their season around. They have under performed and I think the offense will feel the impact of the injury to RB Devonta Freeman. The Falcons pass rush had a strong showing last week and I think they can ride that momentum into this week and really get after Russell Wilson. But Wilson usually saves his best performances at home. I’m not very confident with Seattle at home as I used to be but I’ll take them this week. Prediction: Seahawks 28 – Falcons 27

The Rest of Week 11

Lions over Bears – Detroit’s defense has to perform better against rookie QBs.

Jaguars over Browns – Could Jacksonville really win ten games this year? It’s beginning to look that way.

Ravens over Packers – Baltimore on the road could be tricky. Especially since Green Bay figured out a way to win last week. I think the Ravens defense will show up for this one.

Dolphins over Buccaneers – I’m going with the better defense and that’s about all Miami has right now.

Saints over Washington – New Orleans is getting it done on the ground and their defense performed well last week on the road.

Chiefs over Giants – Kansas City cant afford any slip-ups coming off the bye week against a bad Giants team.

Cardinals over Texans – Blaine Gabbert vs. Tom Savage. Yuck.

Chargers over Bills – Buffalo would be in the playoffs if the season ended today. So, why change QB’s after one bad performance? No one can explain the thought process in Buffalo right now.

Broncos over Bengals – Denver is in a funk. Maybe Andy Dalton can help them out of it.

Fantasy Football Picks of the Week

QB: Dak Prescott (Cowboys) – Dallas is going to need big passing plays to beat Philadelphia.

RB: LeSean McCoy (Bills) – With a QB change, Buffalo should lean on Shady against the league’s worst run defense.

WR: Tyreke Hill (Chiefs) – The Giants have the 30th rank pass defense in the league. Hill and his speed will be able to take full advantage.

TE: Rob Gronkowski (Patriots) – Gronk will demand the ball against the Raiders secondary.

DEF: Los Angeles Chargers – The Chargers pass rush could be in full display against a rookie making his first career start.

NFL 2017: Mid-Season Report

At the midway point of the 2017 season, a all-Pennsylvania Super Bowl doesn’t seem like a crazy idea.

By: Elias McMillan

We have seen some surprises and disappointments so far this 2017 season. Here’s my list. Also, I had to change my original Super Bowl prediction of Falcons-Raiders from last August.

Top 5 Surprising Teams

  1. Philadelphia Eagles (8-1) – The Eagles look right now like the class of the NFC. Their young QB, Carson Wentz, is leading an explosive offensive attack that can create big plays on the ground and thru the air. On defense, the Eagles are strong up front against the run and can get after the QB. Time will tell if this Eagles team is for real or not. They’ve had a cakewalk of a schedule so far this season and they still have remaining games against Dallas, Seattle, and much improved Los Angeles.
  2. New Orleans Saints (6-2) – The Saints are the sleeper team in the NFC South that Tampa Bay was suppose to be this year. QB Drew Brees is still getting the job done despite his age and he is receiving great support from his running backs. Defense has been the main issue in New Orleans for years now but we are seeing a much-improved secondary in 2017.
  3. Los Angeles Rams (6-2) – The Rams has had the individual talent on the roster for a while now. But this year, they are finally putting it together to where they might actually be a playoff team. RB Todd Gurley and DT Aaron Donald continue to be great but that young defense is really beginning to thrive under coordinator Wade Phillips and QB Jared Goff is having a bounce back season after a tough rookie campaign.
  4. Jacksonville Jaguars (5-3) – Jacksonville’s defense has become good enough where it is single handedly winning games for the team. The Jaguars are loaded with talent across the board defensively and they are now witnessing the fruits of their draft labor. If the offense can do just a little more than the minimum, Sacksonville will win the AFC South.
  5. New York Jets (4-5) – The Jets were supposed to win three games this year. At the half waypoint, they have four. You have to give head coach Todd Bowles credit for what he has been able to do with this roster. They are giving maximum effort each week and it shows. The Jets wont make the playoffs this year but I really hope they stick with the coaching brain trust that they currently have.

Top 5 Disappointing Teams

  1. Oakland Raiders (4-5) – The Raiders were my Super Bowl pick but they look like a mess right now. The defense has really disappointed and QB Derek Carr isnt getting much from his offensive line. Oakland has enough talent to turn their season around but it doesn’t seem likely.
  2. New York Giants (1-7) – Even before the injuries, the Giants were a mess from Jump Street in 2017. The offense is in crisis mode without Odell Beckham Jr. and it look like they are starting to prepare for life without Eli Manning. I thought New York at least had a promising defense at the beginning of the season but they have also been a massive letdown.
  3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-6) – Tampa was my sleeper in the NFC South. I thought QB Jameis Winston would blossom with all the talent they surrounded him with in the offseason. Instead, Winston and the entire offense have struggled. Tampa also isn’t getting much from their defense either. I wonder who will receive most of the blame at season’s end: the head coach or the QB?
  4. Atlanta Falcons (4-4) – Atlanta is still in the hunt for a playoff berth but they have massively under performed this season. Despite having the talent on both sides of the ball, the offense has yet to find consistency and the defense is not closing out game in the second half. Atlanta will have to start playing with some urgency in the second half of the season.
  5. Arizona Cardinals (4-4) – I had Arizona as a playoff team before the season started. Their struggles can be accounted for different reason. Losing their best player, RB David Johnson, hurt. But to add on to that, they also lose starting QB Carson Palmer. Injuries happen but the real disappointment with this team lies on the defense. OLB Chandler Jones is having a great season as one of the leading pass rushers in the league. But the rest of the defense, especially the secondary, has really let this team down so far this year.

Mid Season Awards

MVP: Carson Wentz (QB – Philadelphia) – Wentz has been very impressive so far this year and his team has the best record in football.

Offensive MVP: Tom Brady (QB – New England) – The ageless one continues to lead the league in passing categories. New England remains so confident in him that they traded away his back up.

Defensive MVP: Calais Campbell (DT – Jacksonville) – We have to give someone credit for helping the Jacksonville defense take that next step. Calais Campbell has provided leadership with that group while being on the league leaders in sacks at the halfway point of the season.

My REVISED Pick of Super Bowl 52

In the AFC, I think it is Pittsburgh’s conference to lose. The Steelers have had the best roster in the AFC for some years now but for one reason or another, they haven’t been able to put it together in January. With Ben Roethlisberger’s retirement looming, the Steelers have to get it done this season. New England will meet Pittsburgh again in the playoffs but I think Pittsburgh is able to finally slay their “dragon” this postseason if they are healthy. In the NFC, I see a wide-open field. Everyone loves Philadelphia right now but they have had a cake schedule so far. We will see how good they really are, as we get closer to the postseason. Minnesota could be a sleeper. They have a great defense and Teddy Bridgewater will be returning at QB soon. I’m not sure if I’m ready to take New Orleans seriously yet. In the West, Seattle just dropped two straight at home, which literally never happens. And can’t fully trust the LA Rams with their inconsistent offense. I love the idea of Dallas wrecking stuff as a wildcard in the playoffs but I’m not entirely sure if they will even make the playoffs. Despite their recent struggles and because there was no way I was going to pick the Eagles, I’ll go with Seattle because their defense can still be good when it wants to. REVISED Super Bowl 52 Prediction: Steelers over Seahawks

NFL 2017: Week 9 Predictions!

867851304.0

David Carr and the Raiders need to rebound after an unfavorable start to this season.

By: Elias McMillan

Last Week: 12-1

Season: 71-48

Big Five Games of the Week

Buffalo @ New York Jets – The Jets are cranking out great efforts week after week. That’s a good sign for head coach Todd Bowles. The Jets will attempt to empty the tank on a short week against a red hot Buffalo Bills team at home. The Bills were thought to be tanking in September but now they are thinking about how they can keep this going and end one of the longer playoff droughts going in the league. New York will play tough at home and their defense will keep them in it. But the Bills seem to have a lot going for them right now. They have the better QB in Tyrod Taylor and they’ll take the extra rest after this win to accumulate newly acquired WR Kelvin Benjamin. Prediction: Bills 27 – Jets 13

Denver @ Philadelphia – Philadelphia’s remaining schedule isn’t very strong. They just have to keep the wins rolling and stay healthy going into the post season at this point. I think Denver’s defense will provide a good test for the Eagles offense. Von Miller and the Broncos defensive line could provide problems for Philly’s offensive line and their top running attack. Even if Denver is able to limit what Philadelphia can do on offense, I do not trust the Denver offense amounting to much especially since they are turning the offense over to Brock Osweiler. Prediction: Eagles 22 – Broncos 10

Atlanta @ Carolina – The Falcons are continuing to under perform this season. Atlanta still has the ability to put up points with that offense, forcing the opposing team to attempt to outscore them. Atlanta can’t afford to sleep walk this week in Carolina. The Panthers offense is in disarray and things won’t be getting better as they just traded away Cam Newton’s number one receiver. Carolina is still playing well defensively but their offense is missing the spark that rookie RB Christian McCaffrey was suppose to provide. This one will be a heated NFC South contest and I don’t see Carolina amounting enough offensively to beat Atlanta. Carolina may waste another good effort from their defense. Prediction: Falcons 24 – Panthers 19

Kansas City @ Dallas – The Ezekiel Elliott suspension has finally gone through and that is bad news for the Cowboys. Zeke has clearly been the Cowboys best player the last two week and now they will go without him for 6 weeks. I think Alfred Morris and a fresh (but old) Darren McFadden could prove to serve the Dallas rushing game well but it shouldn’t be enough to make up what Zeke can do for the offense when he is in the lineup. Kansas City is really good this year so Dallas will have to play their best game at home to beat them. The Cowboys defense is very beatable so, I can see them having a tough time with WR Tyreke Hill, RB Kareem Hunt and TE Travis Kelce. Kansas City’s defense can give up big plays on occasion as well. QB Dak Prescott has to figure a way to attack the Chiefs defense with confidence in this one. Without Zeke to lean on, Prescott will have to make the Chiefs defense respect the passing game and with the weapons he has, I believe that he can. The Chiefs will be strong upfront defensively with Justin Houston and the return of Tamba Hali. I think the first one without Elliott will prove to be a tough one for Dallas. Prediction: Chiefs 35 – Cowboys 29

Oakland @ Miami – The Raiders are in a rut. They were suppose to be a Super Bowl contender but now it is looking like they may miss the playoffs al together if they don’t get things turned around in a hurry. Miami might be a great place for that turn around to begin. The Dolphins have been wildly inconsistent this season and their head coach is fed up. Case in point, they traded away under performing star RB (from last year) Jay Ajayi. For whatever reason, Miami hasn’t been able to get their running game going and that was such a key to their playoff run a season ago. QB Jay Cutler will return for this game but I’m not sure if that’s a good thing. I mean, the Raiders do have a weak secondary but they should be able to get after Cutler with Khalil Mack and their pass rush. Miami’s defensive front seven is tough but they also struggle in the secondary. I think David Carr and the passing game will be able to make some big plays down the field for Oakland. This game could provide the Raiders with some confidence going forward as Miami begins their journey to the bottom of the AFC East. Prediction: Raiders 30 – Dolphins 21

The Rest of Week 9

Ravens over Titans – I know Tennessee is coming off the bye but Baltimore’s defense played really good last week.

Saints over Buccaneers – New Orleans is the sleeper team in the NFC that many thought Tampa would be at the beginning of this season.

Rams over Giants – New York is coming off another week of locker room drama. LA can’t blink as they are chasing a realistic playoff berth.

Jaguars over Bengals – The Jacksonville pass rush will be all over Andy Dalton in this game. Many are excited about the return of the teal jerseys for the Jags. They really just need to go back to having one helmet color.

Texans over Colts – Houston lost last week but they have to be feeling pretty confident about their rookie at QB.

Cardinals over 49ers – This one is truly a toss-up. San Fran is winless and they might have a good chance if they can close out in the 4th quarter.

Seahawks over Washington – It is too bad that the Washington defense and offensive line has suffered so many injuries.

Lions over Packers – Detroit was pathetic at home last week. I don’t think much of the Aaron Rodgers-less Packers but they actually have a great chance of winning with their home field advantage.

Fantasy Football Picks of the Week

QB: Deshaun Watson (Texans) – After ripping the Seahawks secondary, going up against the Colts could be a walk in the park.

RB: Adrian Peterson (Cardinals) – The 49ers can’t stop the run and Arizona will have to lean on the run game with Carson Palmer out for the season.

WR: Mike Evans (Buccaneers) – Tampa will attack the Saints secondary in an attempt to out score Drew Brees and company.

TE: Jason Witten (Cowboys) – With no Ezekiel Elliott, Dak Prescott will turn to one of the most reliable players in the league.

DEF: Jacksonville – Cincinnati doesn’t have an offensive line. Another 10 sack day on the horizon?

NFL 2017: Week 7 Predictions!

Steelers4-1100x726

After handing Kansas City their first loss of 2017, Pittsburgh sets its eyes on Cincinnati and the AFC North.

By: Elias McMillan

Last Week: 8-6

Season: 50-41

Big Five Games of the Week

Arizona @ Los Angeles Rams – The Cardinals could put themselves right back in the discussion in the NFC West with a win over the Rams in London on Sunday. Arizona has had a rough start to this season. They lost RB David Johnson and their defense has been a major disappointment. But the arrival of RB Adrian Peterson last week has put some life back into the Cardinals offense. The Rams are currently in first place in the NFC West. Crazy, I know. They are finally seeing the fruits of their individual talent from a couple of players (Gurley, Donald, etc.) but as a team they are still inconsistent. The Rams and Cardinals both have defenses that give up a lot on the ground and through the air. I’ll place my faith in the three old guys (Peterson, Palmer, & Fitzgerald) though the Rams will probably have the best player on the field. Prediction: Cardinals 33 – Rams 23

Baltimore @ Minnesota – With Rookie RD Dalvin Cook going down to an injury weeks ago, it felt like the excitement about Minnesota’s season went with him. But suddenly, hope springs enteral for the guys in Purple. Aaron Rodgers was taken out last week, they secured the home victory over Green Bay, and QB Teddy Bridgewater is getting ready to return. What a tremendous turn around this could be. But the Vikings can’t get ahead of themselves. They still have to take care of business at home this week against a floundering Baltimore team. Are we seeing the end of Joe Flacco? Baltimore’s offense is a mess and maybe Flacco isn’t sole to blame but he hasn’t been exactly lighting it up this season. Baltimore’s offensive struggles serve right into Minnesota’s strength: defense. Prediction: Vikings 28 – Ravens 14

Cincinnati @ Pittsburgh – The Steelers are following a familiar pattern this season. Playing down to weak opponents then playing up against stronger one. This has been in full display the last two weeks with what happened at home against Jacksonville then last week at undefeated Kansas City. Can the Steelers find some consistency? This Sunday at home against a AFC North rival would be a great time for the Steelers to stop tripping over themselves and start playing like the title contenders everyone thought they would be. Pittsburgh is taking Cincinnati seriously despite the Bengals struggles this season. Cincy has been playing better since Week 1 and are coming to Pittsburgh off a bye week, so they should be fresh. This will be a long, drawn out chess match with both teams attempting to control the clock with the run game. Pittsburgh will not be overly aggressive which will allow the Bengals to believe that they can actually hang with them. But, despite their issues, the Steelers are still the class of the AFC North and they’ll prove it Sunday at home. Prediction: Steelers 29 – Bengals 21

Atlanta @ New England – I almost called New England losing at the Jets last week. I could see it coming. New England has grossly under achieved so far this season but there’s no panic in Bean town thanks to the awful division they play in. I can’t explain what happened to the Falcons last week. To blow a 17 point lead at home to Miami? They must have been over looking the Dolphins in anticipation to this primetime Super Bowl rematch. The Patriots haven’t been great at home, losing there to Carolina, Kansas City, and nearly Houston. Atlanta can forget about what happened last week at home. They’ve been clearly waiting for this opportunity to exorcise the demons from last year’s Super Bowl meltdown. Matt Ryan and the Falcons offense will jump on the home team early and look to make a point in this one. Prediction: Falcons 34 – Patriots 27

Washington @ Philadelphia – All aboard the Philadelphia hype train. The Eagles are 5-1 and since they’re in the NFC East, all eyes are on them right now. Allow me to quickly throw shade. Who have the Eagles beaten? I guess their most impressive win was at Carolina but they were gifted in that one by a couple of horrible throws by Cam Newton. Looking down the Eagles schedule and they have a cupcake city trail that will probably lead to a 10 win season. I can’t believe it but its true. Sigh. Washington was never going to be a player in the NFC East this year but I was impressed by their defense. That unit is starting to suffer through some injuries and Kirk Cousins and the Washington offense won’t be able to save them. Philly should roll at home. Prediction: Eagles 30 – Washington 20

The Rest of Week 7

Chiefs over Raiders – Oakland has no defense. Kansas City’s offense should be able to rebound on the short week.

Bills over Buccaneers – Tampa Bay will be on my list of most disappointing teams this season. Buffalo’s defense is tough and Tyrod Taylor will have some chances for some big plays at home against Tampa’s defense.

Panthers over Bears – Cam Newton was brutal at the end of last week’s game against the Eagles. I hope he has himself figured out this week. They can’t sleep on Chicago’s defense. They have young talent.

Titans over Browns – There’s no hope is Cleveland. Tennessee must start stacking victories if they hope to win their division.

Saints over Packers – The Aaron Rodgers injury is an absolute killer. Now, Green Bay’s roster will be exposed for just not being very good. Rodgers hid a lot of problems for the Packers.

Jaguars over Colts – Jacksonville’s seesaw season continues. And Andrew Luck has had a setback during his recovery. He can’t wait to get out of Indianapolis.

Jets over Dolphins – Toss-up game here. I’m rooting for Todd Bowles. He’s a good coach and the Jets looked like over achievers last week.

Cowboys over 49ers – Trap game for Dallas coming off the bye. They can’t let their lack of defense lose it for them. Control the clock with the run game and limit San Fran’s big plays.

Seahawks over Giants – New York could make things hard for Seattle on the road judging off what they did to Denver last week. Seattle’s defense must set the tone early in this one.

Broncos over Chargers – Denver better show up this week. They were nowhere to be found at home last Sunday.

Fantasy Football Picks of the Week

QB: Matt Ryan (Falcons) – New England gives up the most yardage through the air this season. Ryan will attack and attack often.

RB: C.J Anderson (Broncos) – The Chargers allow the most yardage through the ground this season. With the question marks Denver has at QB, they should lean on Anderson and the run game.

WR: Dez Bryant (Cowboys) – I want to see Dez have a multiple TD game against a weak 49ers secondary.

TE: Travis Kelce (Chiefs) – Oakland can’t defend the pass. Kelce has been the heartbeat of the Chiefs passing attack this season.

DEF: Minnesota – Joe Flacco will not be able to beat this defense.

Are Cam Newton and the Panthers starting to regain the form they showed in 2015?

By: Elias McMillan

Last Week: 4-10

Season: 42-35

Big Five Games of the Week

Philadelphia @ Carolina – The Panthers went from an unimpressive 2-0 to a very impressive 4-1. The Panthers netted a big road victory last week in Detroit. Now, they’ll return home to face a hot Philadelphia team. The Eagles passing offense is looking really strong right now. The offensive line is holding up and QB Carson Wentz is finding his big targets down the field. The Eagles still have an inconsistent run game and their secondary on defense is shaky but right now things are just clicking on that team. On a short week, I like the home team’s chances but I think the Eagles are going to be able to win some key matchups in this game. I think the Eagles front seven will limit Carolina on the ground and get after Cam Newton. And I like Philadelphia’s chances to make more big plays down the field against Carolina’s secondary. This should be a really good game. I can’t believe it but I’m going with the road Eagles in an upset. Prediction: Eagles 27 – Panthers 20

Green Bay @ Minnesota – The Vikings have the defense to get after Aaron Rodgers and the Packers offense. Especially at home. But I don’t trust their offense even against a Packers defense that isn’t that great. Playing at Minnesota can be a tough task but the Packers will have more opportunities to put points on the board. Minnesota’s offense is handicapped by the injuries they have at QB and RB. Prediction: Packers 29 – Vikings 18

New England @ New York Jets – The Jets enter this game with 3 wins. The Jets enter Week 6 of the 2017 season with six wins. They can’t fire Todd Bowles after this season. Some in the Jets locker room have said before the season that they are NOT tanking. I guess, they were right. New England is better team and should own them. But then again, I think the Jets have a better chance than most believe. New England is beatable. This year, the familiar flaws (defense and offensive line play) have returned to the Pats. And there are whispers about Tom Brady maybe playing through a shoulder injury. Also, I love the story line of DE Kony Ealy who was a Patriot to start training camp after a trade from Carolina only to get cut before the start of the season and getting signed by the Jets. Ultimate revenge factor for him in this game. I suspect Bowles will allow him to pin his ears back and chase Brady all game. I don’t think the Jets have the offense to out score the Patriots but then again, New England’s defense is in a rut. I’m not picking the Jets but I’m saying that being the Pats at home isnt as tall of a task than it sounds. Prediction: Patriots 31 – Jets 30

Los Angeles Rams @ Jacksonville – Jacksonville’s defense balled out last week but the Jags will be fighting a stigma this week at home against the Rams. The Jaguars can’t seem to put together a pair of good performances in a row. The LA Rams were a dropped pass in the end zone away from coming away with their most impressive win of the season at home against Seattle. I think the progress seen in LA is real and they play Jacksonville tough on the road. The Rams will take the ball out of Jared Goff’s hands and give it to Todd Gurley as much as possible against a Jaguars defense that isn’t strong against the run, usually. I think the Rams front seven on defense, led by Aaron Donald, will be a great test for Leonard Fournette and the Jags running game. Both QB’s in this game stink and they wont matter in this match up. I think the Rams will be able to hide Goff better than the Jaguars can hide Bortles. Prediction: Rams 13 – Jaguars 10

Pittsburgh @ Kansas City – So much drama in Pittsburgh recently. But I’ve seen this movie before. The Steelers are in an early season rut. And they still have enough talent to bounce back. Enter the Chiefs who are undefeated and are playing as well as anyone right now. The Chiefs have to be thinking about how Pittsburgh has punked them in their last two meetings. I think this game will come down to who can control the clock better. Steelers RB Le’Veon Bell is begging for more touches and I think he will get his wish on Sunday. The Chiefs have a pretty good RB on their team too. Rookie RB Kareem Hunt should see plenty of opportunities in this game. Both QB’s, Ben Roethlisberger and Alex Smith, will not be shy about airing it out. The Antonio Brown/Marcus Peters matchup should be entertaining. And the Chiefs will be looking for big plays from WR Tyreke Hill who will be the fastest player on the field Sunday. This game will come down to execution. The Chiefs will have the home field advantage but Pittsburgh has the experience in these situations to bounce back after a few tough weeks. I like Pittsburgh to right the ship in an upset. Prediction: Steelers 34 – Chiefs 30

The Rest of Week 6

Falcons over Dolphins – Atlanta will be fresh coming off the bye. I feel that injuries are their greatest enemy so far this season.

Lions over Saints – Stafford vs. Brees should provide some great QB theater.

Washington over 49ers – This game will feature two young up and coming defenses in the league.

Ravens over Bears – Have the Ravens righted the ship after a bad start? Maybe. They can’t have a let down at home against a weak opponent.

Texans over Browns – Deshaun Watson is looking like a real answer at QB for Houston. DeShone Kizer was benched last week and lost his starting job. Who has worst luck at picking QB’s than Cleveland? The Watt and Clowney injuries will hurt but I’m still going with Houston.

Buccaneers over Cardinals – Arizona’s defense is an embarrassment right now.

Chargers over Raiders – David Carr or no David Carr, the defensive woes are what are what is holding Oakland back.

Broncos over Giants – The New York Giants are sad. The entire WR core is out for the season. THE ENTIRE CORE. The top four options. How could this happen? Denver should roll at home.

Titans over Colts – Tennessee has to turn it around this week on Monday night. If not, their season will get longer and longer.

Fantasy Football Picks of the Week

QB: Jameis Winston (Buccaneers) – Jameis has had some shaky starts in games this season but the Cardinals defense gives up plenty of big plays down field.

RB: Todd Gurley (Rams) – LA will use Gurley like Pittsburgh should have used Le’Veon Bell last week.

WR: DeAndre Hopkins (Texans) – Hopkins is building a great connection with the rookie QB, Watson. Sunday against the Browns could be like a glorified practice session.

TE: Ed Dickson (Panthers) – Dickson has put together a small string of good performances recently. Newton will continue to look his way on Thursday night.

DEF: Denver – The Broncos are a defensive team and they’ll face an offensively wounded Giants team this week.

What’s wrong with the Giants? I’m not sure. But they better have it figured out before their trip to Philly on Sunday.

By: Elias McMillan

Last Week: 12-4

Season: 19-12

Big Five Games of the Week

Atlanta @ Detroit – The Lions have played well in the first 2 weeks of the season but I think they’ll face their biggest test yet in the Falcons at home on Sunday. I’ll give the Lions defense credit for limiting the Giants and Cardinals on offense but I think their defense will have its hands full with what Atlanta has to offer. A win here, even at home, would really be impressive for Detroit. But I think the Matt Ryan and the Falcons offense will be able to stretch the Lions defense in ways that Carson Palmer and Eli Manning couldn’t. Prediction: Falcons 28 – Lions 20

Tampa Bay @ Minnesota – So much for that strong start for Sam Bradford and the Vikings offense. Minnesota definitely missed him last week and it sounds like his status will be up in the air again this week at home against Tampa Bay. Beating Minnesota shouldn’t be an easy task for this Tampa Bay team but they have high expectations this season and this would be a big road victory. I just don’t see Minnesota generating enough offense to win game without a capable QB. The Vikings defense should keep this competitive but the Bucs will make more big plays on the offensively side of the ball. Prediction: Buccaneers 26 – Vikings 19

New York Giants @ Philadelphia – It’s only two games in but the Giants look like a total disaster right now. The offense just can’t get on track. The situation at offensive line is tragic. They can’t protect Eli Manning. They can’t run the ball. All that talent at WR hasn’t amounted to anything yet. I think New York could still lean on their defense if they needed to but they need to get things figured out offensively before those losses start stacking up. Unfortunately for the Giants, they will be in Philly this week facing a team that matches up well against their current weaknesses. I expect the Eagles to set the tempo early with their defensive front seven and eventually, Carson Wentz and the offense should be able to wear the Giants defense out in the 4th quarter. Prediction: Eagles 25 – Giants 21

Seattle @ Tennessee – The Titans rebounded nicely last week in a game they were suppose to win in Jacksonville. Seattle took care of business at home but it wasn’t pretty against a 49ers team that won’t be any good this year. Seattle is having offensive issues early this season and they’ll face a good Tennessee team this week on the road. It just seems like a game that the Seahawks would drop. Prediction: Titans 23 – Seahawks 16

Oakland @ Washington – I have to give Washington credit. Their offense hung in there against a tough defensive front seven on the road and they were able to gut out a victory. They were aided by some dumb decisions by Jared Goff but that’s beside the point. Having a let down at home will seem likely this week for Washington as the Raiders are off to a hot start and they’ve already shown the ability to play tough on the road this season. I think David Carr and the passing offense for Oakland will be able to have a strong game. Oakland should be able to control the clock with their running game as well. Khalil Mack and Bruce Irvin will get after Kirk Cousins but it will be interesting to see if Washington is able to run the ball like they were able to last week. I think both teams will score a lot in this matchup and I don’t see Cousins out dueling Carr. Even at home. Prediction: Raiders 31 – Washington 27

The Rest of Week 3

Rams over 49ers – If you are making plans to watch this one, it is time to re-evaluate your life.

Ravens over Jaguars – London games are lame and the NFL needs to stop with these obvious cash grabs. Fat chance, I know. Silly me for buying into the Jags hype after Week 1 and picking them to win last week. Baltimore might be the least impressive 2-0 team in the league.

Broncos over Bills – Buffalo is tanking but they have enough defensive talent to appear to be competitive. This should be a low scoring affair. The Bills can be tough at home. This is a textbook trap game for Denver who is coming off an impressive home win last week.

Steelers over Bears – Here’s who the Pittsburgh defense has faced thru two weeks: DeShone Kizer, a rookie, and Case Keenum. This week’s opposing QB? Mike Glennon. Hashtag: Cupcake City.

Colts over Browns – Cleveland needs to win this one because Indy stinks. Both teams really stink. I guess I’ll count on the Brownies to stink more.

Patriots over Texans – Houston will not be able to out score Brady and the Pats on the road.

Dolphins over Jets – Cutler didn’t lose the game last week for Miami. That’s a good thing.

Panthers over Saints – Scratch out what I said earlier about Baltimore. Carolina is the least impressive 2-0 team in the league. If only, New Orleans had a defense.

Packers over Bengals – What will it take for Marvin Lewis to be fired? That will be a weekly question in Cincinnati this season.

Chiefs over Chargers – Kansas City got rid of some recognizable names on offense, they are dealing with injuries on defense, and they look even better than last season right now. This is why Andy Reid is valuable. Kudos to Alex Smith as well. He’s going to trick some owner to pay him a ridiculous amount of money next season.

Cardinals over Cowboys – Arizona hasn’t looked strong this season but they have a defense that can slow what Dallas does on offense. Weird things seem to happen when the Cowboys play at Arizona.

Fantasy Football Picks of the Week

QB: David Carr (Raiders) – Oakland will need a strong game from Carr if they hope to win across the country this week.

RB: Kareem Hunt (Chiefs) – Hunt has been the breakout star so far this season at the RB position.

WR: Antonio Brown (Steelers) – Brown is off to a great start in 2017. Chicago doesn’t have much of a secondary.

TE: Jason Witten (Cowboys) – The old man in Dallas is among the league leading pass catchers so far in this young season.

DEF: Los Angeles Rams/San Francisco – Take your pick. The defense’s will shine in that Thursday night crap fest.
