Shady McCoy and the Bills look to protect home field this weekend while keeping their sights on contending in the AFC East.

By: Elias McMillan

Last Week: 9-6

Season: 59-47

Big Five Games of the Week

Oakland @ Buffalo – The Raiders had a great, emotional victory at home last Thursday against the Chiefs. The moment was big enough to forget about how RB Marshawn Lynch was ejected and is now suspended for this weekend. The Raiders will have a few extra days to prepare but they will still have to travel a long ways to Orchard Park, New York this weekend to face the Bills. Buffalo is breathing right down New England’s neck in the AFC East and they are feeling pretty confidant right now. Their defense has performed well this year and the offense can take advantage of weaker, defensive teams. It will be an emotional return to the Buffalo area for Raiders DE Khalil Mack who played their in college but it will be a bad return if his defense doesn’t show up. Mack and Bruce Irvin can be bright spots up front for Oakland but the defense as a whole just gives up too many big plays. I think Buffalo QB Tyrod Taylor will find his spots to make some big plays in this game even without his top target, TE Charles Clay. Oakland QB David Carr could be able to ride the wave of a strong performance last week into this one. But the Bills can be tricky at home. Prediction: Bills 28 – Raiders 20

Houston @ Seattle – The Seahawks usually have problems on the road and they almost fell into that trap again last week in New York. Lucky, they woke up and took care of business and will now return home this week. Houston rookie QB Deshaun Watson will face a tall task in the Seattle defense, especially on the road. Houston will also feel the effects of not having its too best players on defense. I think they will still find a way to pressure and get after QB Russell Wilson. But in a defensive struggle, I trust the veteran Wilson over the young pup, Watson. Especially at home. Prediction: Seahawks 16 – Texans 10

Dallas @ Washington – This game will begin a tough stretch for the Cowboys. Dallas took care of business last week in San Fran. This week, the stakes will be a bit higher against divisional rival, Washington. I watched Washington a few weeks ago and I was so impressed with their defense. Since then injuries have taken a toll and the team has started to struggle a bit. I think Washington will still be able to give the Dallas offense some resistance but they wont be able to lean on that unit in this game. Instead, they could lean on Kirk Cousins and the offense to pressure a beatable Dallas defense. The Cowboys defense is young and they have their good moments but consistency continues to be a problem. The Cowboys offense will have to do a great job this week and controlling the ball on offense and limiting Cousins’ chances at testing the Dallas secondary. I could see Dallas dropping this game on the road but I think they’ll be able to take advantage of a short-handed Washington defense on a short week. Prediction: Cowboys 34 – Washington 30

Pittsburgh @ Detroit – The Lions had so much momentum a few weeks ago. What happened? Their defense got exposed and QB Matt Stafford couldn’t save them. Things will get worst this week with Pittsburgh coming to town. The Steelers are starting to hit their stride as the best team in the AFC. I don’t think their offense will miss a beat this week against this Lions defense. Pittsburgh’s pass rush looked strong last week and that will be key for the rest of the year. If they can keep that up, they will continue to be tough for anyone to beat. The Lions will have a chance if Stafford can attack the Steelers secondary while not running for his life. It would be nice if Detroit had a consistent threat in the run game on offense. Detroit can’t survive if Stafford is throwing the ball 50 times a game. I like the Steelers here. Prediction: Steelers 39 – Lions 30

Denver @ Kansas City – Chiefs QB Alex Smith has been playing well for most of this season. This Monday night on Hallo-Eve, he will try to figure out a usually decent Broncos defense at home. The Broncos have had some time to try to figure out their issues after a humiliating loss at home to a bad Giants team. Denver’s offensive woes seem like they are not going away. But the Chiefs defense is coming off a couple a really bad performances too. Denver could be able to find their offensive spark in this one. And I think Smith is aware of what the Broncos defense is capable of when they are on their game. A Denver win on the road wouldn’t surprise me but the Chiefs need a bounce back game after dropping two straight and I love their home field advantage. Prediction: Chiefs 21 – Broncos 16

The Rest of Week 8

Dolphins over Ravens – Miami will soon find out that Matt Moore was the QB they should have went with all along. Miami was so emotional after the win last week. They are taking this “us against the world” mentality to heart.

Vikings over Browns – Minnesota could be marching towards a division title.

Bengals over Colts – This game will feature two horrible offensive lines. I can at least name Cincinnati’s pass rushers.

Patriots over Chargers – Is New England defense back to being decent? Or naw?

Saints over Bears – New Orleans have won 4 straight, quietly.

Falcons over Jets – I like this Jets team because unlike Atlanta, they are putting in maximum effort each week for their head coach (Todd Bowles) and you can easily tell. Atlanta is too talented. They better be “up” for this one.

Eagles over 49ers – Philly is the hot team. I’m wondering how they will react to a couple injuries suffered last week.

Panthers over Buccaneers – Cam Newton better wake up and wake up soon. Tampa’s defense isn’t very good. This has to be the week for Newton and the Carolina offense.

Fantasy Football Picks of the Week

QB: Phillip Rivers (Chargers) – New England gives up the most yardage through the air. If LA hopes to go toe-to-toe with Brady, it will be on the arm of Rivers.

RB: Jay Ajayi (Dolphins) – The J-Train has been quiet this year. On Thursday, he will be running into the worst run defense in the league.

WR: A.J. Green (Bengals) – Cincinnati has to find a way to get the ball in the hands of its best player.

TE: Zach Ertz (Eagles) – Ertz leads the league in TD catches for a TE.

DEF: Carolina – The Panthers defense did its job last week, limiting Chicago’s offense to just 3 points.

Can the Eagles defense slow down the league’s best running game in Dallas?

By: Elias McMillan

Last Week: 7-7-1

Season: 62-44-1

Big Five Games of the Week

New England @ Buffalo – The Bills were riding high after winning four straight coming off the firing of their offensive coordinator. But last week, Buffalo fell for the trap on the road in the Miami Dolphins. Buffalo couldn’t stop the Dolphins rushing attack and their own best offensive weapon, LeSean McCoy, was injured and not effective. Buffalo will return home this week but they will have the New England Patriots waiting for them. New England didn’t look too impressive last week in Pittsburgh but they were still able to win convincingly against a shorthanded team. The Patriots enter a similar situation this week on the road again. Buffalo will be without their best player so the Pats will need to take full advantage of that. Buffalo was able to beat the Patriots before Tom Brady returned but despite that, Bill Belichick and company will have revenge on their minds this Sunday. For Buffalo to have a chance, they will need to run the ball as well as they did in their first meeting this season in New England. I think that will prove to be impossible without Shady McCoy. Brady and Rob Gronkowski usual have big performances in Buffalo and I think that is what we will see this team. Prediction: Patriots 32 – Bills 20

Detroit @ Houston – The Texans are the leaders in the AFC South right now but they have to be feeling pretty low after what happened to them last Monday night. The Texans might be able to back into a division crown again but they will not be taken seriously around the league. Brock Osweiler has been proven to be a bust of a free agent signing already. He can’t get star receiver, DeAndre Hopkins, involved. And the defense is playing well but not well enough to win ball games for the underachieving offense. The Detroit Lions haven’t been the most impressive team so far this season but I like the way the fight until the final whistle. Last week, they were in another situation where they could have let that game get away. But they fought hard and were led by their leader, QB Matt Stafford, and he got them the victory. Both moods from these football teams will ride with them into this week’s matchup. Houston is trying to find a way to pick them selves off the mat while Detroit is looking to continue to fight the good fight for all 4 quarters. I think Osweiler’s woes continue and the Lions will score the road victory. Prediction: Lions 28 – Texans 21

San Diego @ Denver – Denver hasn’t looked too impressive recently. If Houston’s QB was worth anything, the Broncos could be going into Week 8 on a three game losing streak. Instead, the Broncos will be looking for revenge against a Chargers team that beat them a few weeks back on the road in a Thursday night matchup. For Denver, it is going to continue to be about their defense. Trevor Siemian and the Broncos will not be dynamic enough to win ball games for this Denver team. They will have to do just enough to put the game in the hands of their talented defense. And that task will be tougher going forward now that staring RB, CJ Anderson, is out for the rest of the season. San Diego has its flaws and they have lost a couple of close ones this season but they are trending upwards right now. Phillip Rivers and the passing game is performing well and Melvin Gordon has the run game going in San Diego finally. The Chargers have a weakness in the secondary on defense but their front seven is really starting to become a difference maker this season. I don’t know how long it has been since the Chargers have swept the Broncos in the season series but I see that happening this Sunday in a close one. Prediction: Chargers 31 – Broncos 30

Green Bay @ Atlanta – I think all of the worries about the Packers are valid. I’ve watched them recently in past weeks and I can’t understand why they are not playing at a level that we were use to seeing. Aaron Rodgers would have more than enough time in the pocket to be his old dominant self but he just kind of stands there now, waiting for something to happened instead of making it happen. Green Bay’s offense will be hurt going forward as well now that Eddie Lacy has been shut down for the rest of the season because of injury. Atlanta had a hiccup last week but I think they’ll be ready to rebound quickly this week at home against the Packers. I think Atlanta’s pass rush will be able to get after Rodgers. Green Bay also will not have an answer for the Matt Ryan-Julio Jones connection. RB Tevin Coleman will be missing time because of injury but Devonta Freeman is more than capable to carry the load on the ground for this Falcons offense. Atlanta will have to win the battle on the line of scrimmage if they hope to really put Green Bay away on Sunday. If they can keep Ryan protected and created rushing lanes for Freeman, the Falcons will have a chance to look really impressive this week. Prediction: Falcons 30 – Packers 20

Philadelphia @ Dallas – You gotta hand it to the Eagles for what they did to an undefeated Vikings team last week. But really, Minnesota was due for a loss. It was amazing by itself that Vikings were starting the season so hot after losing starter after starter due to injury. Philadelphia had a plan to expose their weaknesses last week and it work perfectly, especially on the defensive side of the ball. The Eagles defense will have to come up strong again this week as they travel to Dallas to take on a rested, division leading Cowboys team. This game, like most, will be all about the players up front on the line of scrimmage. The Cowboys offensive line has taken on all challengers so far this season. Green Bay had the top run defense in the league when they faced them and they were still able to take care of business. I think Philadelphia’s front seven will prove to be a great challenge for the Cowboys upfront. We all know what kind of player Fletcher Cox is but really, the Eagles front seven usually does a great job upfront at disrupting the run while pressuring the QB. Rookie QB Dak Prescott has been a tough cookie to crack so far for opposing NFL defenses. While Prescott isn’t exactly putting up big numbers, his ability to not get rattled has been his greatest attribute so far in his career. The Eagles sole goal this weekend on defense will be to rattle Prescott. But a lot can go right for Dallas if the offensive line can continue to be dominant. Ezekiel Elliott can continue his unreal streak of 100-yard games on the ground in a row. Plus, we might see Prescott excel as a down the field passer with the return of Dez Bryant who has historically toasted the Eagles on many occasions. The other matchup in this game between the Eagles offense and the Cowboys defense is pretty lackluster and I don’t see it being a factor. Can Carson Wentz play well enough to outscore the Cowboys offense? Can the Cowboys defense take advantage of an offense that struggles with protection and with running the ball? Both questions are a coin flip. But the Cowboys have been very consistent so far this season and they are even healthier coming off the bye week. Prediction: Cowboys 29 – Eagles 23

The Rest of Week 8

Titans over Jaguars – Jacksonville maybe in trouble of losing their head coach.

Bengals over Washington – I bet Cincinnati is hoping to see what they saw in Jeremy Hill every week. I wonder how Cincinnati football fans feel about losing a home game to London this year.

Jets over Browns – A lot of talk about the QB position in NY but the RB, Matt Forte, will be the difference in this game.

Chiefs over Colts – I feel that this game is a toss up but Alex Smith had some impressive days as a passer playing indoors in Indianapolis.

Seahawks over Saints – I know that Seattle played poorly last week but New Orleans’ defense is still trash. Can Drew Brees keep them in this game for all 4 quarters?

Raiders over Buccaneers – Oakland might be in first place in the AFC West heading towards the midpoint of the season.

Panthers over Cardinals – Carolina is having a rough season but their offense actually got it together before the bye. I think Carolina has some momentum going into this one.

Vikings over Bears – I don’t think Chicago has the resources to expose Minnesota’s weaknesses. That defense will get Jay Cutler to play like Jay Cutler.

Week 8 Fantasy Football Picks

QB: Russell Wilson (Seahawks) – Wilson will be facing a defense that allows the third most yards through the air in the league on Sunday.

RB: DeMarco Murray (Titans) – People need to take notice to what Murray is doing in Tennessee. Murray is among the league leaders on the ground after a loss season in Philly.

WR: Mike Evans (Buccaneers) – The passing game will be Tampa’s only chance on Sunday so, I would expect Jameis Winston to be looking for his best threat multiple times this weekend.

TE: Jimmy Graham (Seahawks) – I sure, that Graham will be very motivated to show out against the team that traded him.

DEF: New England – The Patriots defense will have its chances to play well against a shorthanded, one-dimensional Bills offense.

NFL 2015: Week 8 Predictions!

Miami is trying to climb back into the AFC East picture behind new head coach Dan Campbell.

By: Elias McMillan

Last Week: 9-5

Season: 69-36

Big Five Games of the Week

Miami @ New England – The Dolphins have been on a roll since Dan Campbell has taken over head coaching duties. His hard-nosed, no nonsense approach has this Dolphins team believing that they can turn this season around. Miami should actually match up well tonight against the undefeated Patriots. Miami’s defense has really improved in the last couple of the weeks and they have the defensive line and the secondary to slow New England’s offensive attack. New England has also been average defensively and Miami’s offense has also begun to flourish under Dan Campbell. It’s hard to say which team has the most momentum going into tonight’s game. Miami has recently improved but New England still hasn’t tasted defeat this season yet. Tom Brady and Bill Belichick have a ridiculous record at home against AFC East opponents. Sometimes weird thing happen in these Thursday night matchups. But I’m going to go with the safe pick, New England. Prediction: Patriots 26 – Dolphins 20

New York Giants @ New Orleans – A few weeks ago, the Saints looked awful and Drew Brees’ arm health was in question. Now, Brees appears to be back to playing at his best and the Saints defense is starting to over achieve. The NFC East is awful and I’m not buying that the Giants are poised to create any real separation in that division. They are dealing with some injury issues on defense and the offense hasn’t been real consistent this season. The Saints have been playing strong at home lately and I feel that they could surprise this confident Giants team at home. I’m taking Brees and the Saints. Prediction: Saints 34 – Giants 27

Cincinnati @ Pittsburgh – This is a huge matchup in the AFC North. But, it really isn’t that huge because it is still just Week 8. The AFC North will ultimately come down to these two teams but even after this game, there will be still plenty of football left to be played. If you look at this matchup on paper, you might think that the Bengals should be able to steamroll this Steelers team on the road. The Steelers defense has been over achieving lately but they are coming off a bad performance in Kansas City and this week, I don’t see them having an answer for Bengals WR A.J. Green. The Steelers are getting great play right now from their defensive line and they’ll face a great test in Cincy’s running attack. The Bengals have the third ranked offense in the league right now. Cincinnati’s defense has its weak points too but I like their chances at the line of scrimmage. The Bengals defensive line is getting great pressure right now and Pittsburgh’s offensive line is having a rough time dealing with injuries. Pittsburgh will receive a great boost on Sunday with the return of QB Ben Roethlisberger and I would expect the passing game will be in full attack mode against this under achieving Bengals secondary. Cincinnati has fell short in so many big games in Pittsburgh and I just don’t trust them this week though it looks like they should win. I’m taking the home underdog. Prediction: Steelers 33 – Bengals 27

Green Bay @ Denver – Huge Sunday night matchup between undefeated squads. I feel that the Packers have yet to face any true adversity this season. San Diego gave them a scare two weeks ago but they were mainly in control for most of that game. I’m a big fan of what Denver is doing this season despite all the talk about Peyton Manning’s struggles. Denver has the best defense in football right now and Aaron Rodgers will face his toughest test of the season thus far on Sunday night. Denver has the pass rush to get after Rodgers and the secondary that can stick with Denver’s receivers. Denver is also tough against the run but Green Bay will getting a healthy Eddie Lacy back on Sunday. The matchup between the Packers offense and the Broncos defense will pretty much tell the story of this game. Green Bay doesn’t have a great defense and with two weeks to prepare, maybe Peyton Manning can exploit its holes. I’m taking the home team with the tough defense. Prediction: Broncos 28 – Packers 24

Indianapolis @ Carolina – The wheels have completely fallen off for the Colts. The defense can’t stop anyone. The offense is under performing. And now, head coach Chuck Pagano is on the hot seat. Meanwhile in Carolina, the running game is working, the defense is dominating, and Cam Newton is doing enough with limited weapons to win ball games. In this matchup, I can see Andrew Luck having another rough outing against this Carolina defense. The Panthers have a dominating defensive line, their linebackers fly all over the field and the secondary is playing great while being led by new star, CB Josh Norman. Indy’s defense has been so bad recently, I can see Newton being able to play mistake free football on Monday night. Prediction: Panthers 29 – Colts 17

The Rest of Week 8

Lions over Chiefs – I know that Kansas City is coming off a home victory but Detroit has experience in these overseas games. Look for Calvin Johnson to dominate.

Falcons over Buccaneers – Atlanta won ugly last week. Tampa blew a 24-point lead. That’s uglier.

Vikings over Bears – Minnesota needs to prove that they are for real. They should be able to take care of this bad Chicago team even on the road.

Cardinals over Browns – Cleveland should be completely outmatched in every way in this matchup against Arizona.

Rams over 49ers – St. Louis’ defense will be able to control the outcome of this game.

Chargers over Ravens – San Diego needs to get last week’s taste out of their mouth. Phillip Rivers should be able to out gun sling Joe Flacco.

Titans over Texans – Houston is a mess right now. It looks like Tennessee has more hope for the future recently.

Raiders over Jets – Oakland played great at home last week. Maybe they can take advantage of a Jets team that is traveling across the country.

Seahawks over Cowboys – Dez Bryant might return on Sunday. But without a QB, it won’t matter. Seattle isnt great right now but Dallas is totally inept on offense right now. They need Tony Romo to return soon.

Fantasy Football Picks of the Week

QB: Drew Brees (Saints) – The Giants pass defense is ranked in the bottom five of the league. Brees’ arm is healthy and he’ll continue to prove so on Sunday.

RB: Chris Johnson (Cardinals) – CJ2K has been one of the better stories of this season. Johnson is among the leading rushers in the NFL right now and Cleveland is last at defending the run.

WR: A.J. Green (Bengals) – Andy Dalton will have to lean of Green if he hope to leave Pittsburgh with a win on Sunday.

TE: Delanie Walker (Titans) – Houston’s secondary has a bad matchup this week against Tennessee’s passing attack.

DEF: Carolina – The Panthers should have a huge game defensively against a struggling Colts offense.
